Tip of the Week

WORK FAST AND WORK BETTER

Unlike people who mend cars or put groceries on shelves, we writers, whether employed or freelance, often struggle with an uneven pace in how fast and well we write.

If I put groceries on shelves, I probably put about the same number of groceries on shelves each day. Give or take a few if I`m feeling sick.

But as a writer I am aware of a constant variation in how much I write and even in how well I write it.

For me, and others have shared similar experiences with me, when I`m not busy, I work less efficiently. I work in second gear instead of fifth gear. I don`t feel as engaged and I know that not all of my brain and heart are in what I`m writing.

My solution? When I don`t have paid work to completely fill the work day, I find something else to work on and write. Maybe a project of my own. Maybe a new web site. Maybe a new business idea.

I know for myself that to keep that edge to my work, I need to keep busy, I need to keep writing, I need to keep learning.

How about you?
